SBU Fashion Post...............UPDATE....Shouts to Sopie on the Pics!

As many of you know, I am a glutton for punishment, and I love these college fashion shows for many reasons. The first being the relatively unknown designers that are used and the second for the faces that give identity to the pieces of art worn. Now the punishment part came in the wait for the show to start....I know the staff wasn't at fault, but almost 2 hours waiting for the show to start??? To add more pain to my already hungry self (I don't know why I didn't just eat), within 2 minutes of the show, I realized my camera battery was weak....and 30 seconds later...it was shot...my homie Sophie of purplealamode.blogspot.com (don't forget to check that out), hooked me up with some pictures....whew!

I was honestly relieved when the show officially did kick off, because if it was a dissapointment, I am sure the crowd would've let everyone know. I loved the designers and the themes used to introduce the styles....my favorite was actually the mash house party opener, and of course a wonderful mash up where the dj was spinning an original track (ie. Daft Punks stronger, better, faster) and Kanye's sample to introduce a brand which as soon as I remember will be included in this post. What the show basically did was shine light on individual designers through the use of themes that included music, dancing and showmanship by the models. Overall, a pretty good show. Below are some of my favorites from the night (fashion show, because I didn't do the afterparty thing)........Enjoy!

I've been going through so much lately...on the business side....personal...so much that I've just isolated myself from the creativity that makes me "Lucky". Well guess what? I'm starting to walk back to my happy place. Things are starting to be easy and fun again. The fashion show thing was stressing me out, but I can't let that happen. I know I've been slacking on some of the post, but I've been building the team and programs and worrying so much that JENGA, they all fell down on me. Today I feel rejuvanated and all it took was a simple word "cheese"....I had to make a silly face (thats why people don't take pictures with me...sob).
In fact, I'm making this todays "Lucky Pic".....don't judge the look, but peep the outfit...well from what you can see at least!

You didn't think Family would be exempt did you? I've been in my thinking tank for the last couple of days, thinking of ways to bring you the best of LuckysinLove.com. I've been trying to stay current with the pics and getting everything from meetings to interviews together, and I will be posting up a few this week as well.

As for the picture, I bring you another member of my family.....My cuzo gets down in this picture. Its simply white because she did it for Easter Sunday, but the splash of color is na'an too bright to throw you off, but just enought to grab your attention (ahem, the olive shoes).....She gives you just enough. The hair is cool, more of a "soho bobb" (Lucky's term), and the make up is simple enought to highlight her features and not too much to put a mask on her. I love the coat...Innocent with the look, and simple with the colors....this is just a taste for y'all, because this will get even more beautiful tomorrow.

I told you yesterday was just a sample.......I feel like Flex today (I'm dropping Bombs on y'all...LoL) Daleena's style is exactly what we look for on LuckysinLove...It's fresh, it's unique....it's her! As you all know the question is always; What inspires your style? When I get a great response, I never add my 2cents, because that would be senseless, dig?

"well when it comes 2 my personal style, i just goes wit what feels right, some may not like some of the things i put 2gether and that is 1 of the reasons i feel my style is very unique.....i try not 2 find myself following certain trends and what the "people" say is hott, i usually put an outfit 2gether in my head and once that happens u cant really tell me 2 much after that LOL!!! the biggest factor that comes into play when i put my outfits 2gether is COLORS i love them all.....hate 2 wear very dark and dull colors cuz then thats the way i will feel (even in that pic u posted there wasnt really 2 many colors involved but i had 2 throw in 2 different color bangles just 2 stick wit my whole way of thinkin when it comes 2 me and colors) i love life so i try 2 show it thru the many different colors i wear. believe it or not people react 2 colors, if u see me on a everyday basis u will probably say wow this girl doesnt have a care in the world and she is def lovin life and thats what i always try 2 portray..."

I've been interviewing people like crazy this week, and was out and about in NY conversing with people about not just individual style but their views on where we are headed in the worlds of art and fashion. LuckysinLove is interviewing you the people, and our voices will be heard, dig?
I can go into a description on todays pic, but I like her style and look so much that I had to post something for y'all.....What else can I say about this woman besides "She's got it down to a T"...She doesn't dress to conform, and there isn't an outfit she doesn't rock the H out of. Her look is not Retro, and although she can glam the H out of an outfit, I don't think thats the look either......You'll get the full thing upon the interview because I already stated, I'm only postin one pic of her just to give y'all a taste of whats to come.......and since I'm embracing art and free expression today, what other picture will do, huh?

Ashla1: skinny jeans is from the eighties, ankle boots, cinch belts, (which are my favorite), pencil skirts...its all been donebefore in other decades and now its back around for its second or third time in the spotlight". This was the answer to what influences your style. This young woman clearly has a very good eye for history and its effects on the worlds of art and fashion. Look at the first picture....you see that clasiness? That can't just be put together.....The look, the vibe you get when you see her in this outfit comes naturally. The second picture is what I call a "gimme"........the colors I love....na'an too bright, and put together to make a sick outfit.....nails did....accesories, check....the funny thing is that this outfit is simple enough for the mall and good enough for a comedy club night on the town.......

Now Mirrors being in both pictures is ironic, and I love it because who doesn't check themselves out when they're "doing it"?

Lucky Pic of the day....................Its A New Day People!

Ernest Estime (all over NY)




Usually the question is; "What Influences Your Style?", but in this case I didn't feel there was a need. Andre Maurice Press is quoted in stating "Vibrance, Style, Eloquence, and Humility are a few adjectives that come to mind when the name Ernest Estime is said", and after a brief convo online with this man, I have to agree. Todays Lucky Pic does not have a full body picture which I usually go for, but it has a person who is doing so much and accomplishing so much at a young age. You don't believe me? Then check this out; He started down his thoughts in September of 2006, and within 3 months of this, he was finalist at the Urban Word NYC Grand Slam. Want more? He is now a member of the Suffolk County Community College Poetry Slam Team, which will be competing in New Mexico for the national collegiate slam in April 2008.

My usual question "what influences your style?" was met with a response that I like, "my mood". I picked Berlinda for today because of this reason.....As cliche as this sounds, she wears her emotions literaaly on her sleeves (pun intended). Now we go to the pics that I chose: The first pic is clearly a lesson in hues and color.......the colors are simply white and grey, but the hue she chooses in grey is definately it. The shoes are on the 1 (mine and mine to use you biters) and you know I enjoy her acc. in this picture. The shoes are insane, I'm loving the belt and the handbag is sickness. So now, lets review: shoes (fire), handbag (insae), belt (sickness) and necklace is the cherry on top.
What I love is how easy she makes it look......you can learn a lesson from this. The other two pics are added, because of how easy she makes it look (even though the third is a model pic)..Gold to accesorize the late summer/ fall colors.....Now you tell me, what kind of mood do you think inspired these outfits?....These Colors?

With outfits like these, are you surprised I picked two pics? Well don't be, because from now on, Lucky is going "all in". Sophie is one of my favorite fashionista's, and I am diggin her style tremendously. A woman well ahead of her time in the fashion world, with a penchant for telling you what it really is. I don't think I have to explain to you why I picked these outfits, from the laker gold and purple to the purple dress outlined with the shoes, handbag and na'an too much jewelry, she is definately "doing it". There are many reasons I chose these pictures and we can go from the colors she chooses, and how she matches them up with accesories, but you wanna know my main reason? What did you expect people? Could there actually be any other title for this blog. I have been dying to post Meghan's pictures and I had to pic the right outfits, and it had to be the right time. Lets start with my favorite part, her swag is so officially correct and I love it. I love the butterfly shawl, and I know the colors are kept at a solid in this one, but look again.....you're done?...Good, so I'm pretty sure you noticed it. If you're going to wear black, where it! She does great work with the acc. as well (left wrist with the rustic color of the pullover shawl).
Now drumroll please......Look at that patchwork. There is one word to describe this outfit, Fierce....I'm going to start with the dress, because the colors are the first thing to catch you. Now lets go to my favorites, the extras. The shoes are killing me....I love them. I love when a woman can pull off prints and notice how the shes easily match the dress (ahem, notice the pattern on the left shoulder)...The jewelry is not at a minimum, but just right. The wonder woman band stands out to me, and the extra bracelets are not crazy to distract you from her (thats the worse position people. Do not let your jewelry outshine you.) I love the hoops that she chose to go with so all and all, this was a no brainer to me.
I know many of you are shaking your heads, and saying "Why Lucky, Why?....Because she is comfortable with any and every outfit she rocks. Her swagger in this picture shows me that this is a one shot deal. There wasn't a do-over...this girl is confident when given the spotlight.

Tuesday is officially being renamed in my book. Tuesdays are now Sweater Vestdays! I love sweater vest, and for those of you who know me, I have a pretty sicks argyle and sweater vest collection. I've known this dude since Middle School, and he has that grown man thing, you know? This sweater vest is exceptionally fire. The acc. that he uses are perfect. Do you see the shine on this kid. I can already hear you now "Why these pics Lucky?".....To answer this question, look at the title of this post...ok, now look at the pics again. This girl uses the world for what it should be, a canvas. Her style is the paint that makes the canvas a masterpiece. My two favorite pics are above. The first pic is basically what my Sis does, a matching of like colors but making each color stand on its own. The beaded bracelet on her wrist is a plus on the accesories side of things, and do remember the band, and the belt. Both pics show you "her shoe game proper. The second pic is just too nice. From the pose, to the dress, the shoes and the beret, she lacks nothing. I usually go on a rant after asking "What influences your style?", but I was so impressed with her answer that I think I'll just let Kim tell you:

"People are normally invisble..that is untill they do acts that to others seem outrageous and overly bold...my style is just that...my style is invisible acts that somehow get overseen...i am inspired by different reactions i get from others. What one would be to afraid to do, I am curious to go there as other trendsetters have done in the past...now to call myself a trendsetter would be to much..to call me just being me would be on point".....exactly!

Double the fun on the Lucky Pic of the day....I am a sneaker fiend and music is the fuel to my life....So when I see people dressed like 50cent today, and trying the Kanye and Pharrell the next day, I'm kinda dissapointed...but then I look no further than my city stalkers (God bless y'all)....This choice was pretty simple, not just the colors chosen, but because I've know Sal going on 10 years now, and one thing I can tell you is the homie never, ever, eeeeever poses to be anyone else but Sal (btw, look out for "Hoodman")...........No need to explain the pics today, because many are trying this look out, while the homie lives it!

The Lucky Pic of the Day usually falls into a few categories, and from my descriptions and titles on the pics, you should know. Now look at the title on this one.......do you think its justifiable? I do! I know you're probably thinking "he's just posing" or "does he really dress like that?"......If you have to ask, you're definately not a New Yorker.......This kid has style down to a point that you'd think he is out of his mind. He doesn't wear what you wear, but wears his personality. From these outfits, you can sum up a few things: 1) He has a weird way with colors (yet they look good on the kid), and 2) He wants you to look.....The swag is there, and the look is there......No sense in me telling you what I think he's thinking......just look at the expression and the obvious confidence.....I doubt this guy needs a mirror...
